So recently I've remade my Cookie Run tier list maker hosted on tiermaker. I made it mostly for personal use but I also make sure to update it frequently and encourage wider community usage. I did something similar back when I was big into the Dead By Daylight sphere and made a similar template for fellow users who wanted to make fun little lists with the characters we liked.
As for why I've remade it from scratch, it is mostly because my old tiermaker account was tied to my old Twitter, which, after sitting idle for like a year-ish after deciding I've finally had enough of it, has fiiiinally been deactivated. I still used to browse it on occasion to keep up with things I wasn't getting on Bluesky, or whenever I was feeling nosy about what was going on over there. Also mostly because I've been having fits of "I know I have things I need to do and want to do but I'm just not up to it, man" and something like Twitter's "for you" selection, which can't be turned off and is easily infinitely scrollable, is an easy lure for me in that headspace, and the genuinely nasty interactions and people and discourse that the for you page spits out was neither good for my head nor heart, so I ultimately decided to finally cut myself off from it all together for my own sake. I only didn't do that sooner because of the tiermaker, as I didn't feel like remaking my list, but: now I've remade the list.
Because the list was made mostly for myself, I took a few creative liberties with it. For a few Cookies, I have made a few alterations to their sprites, ranging from simple changes in saturation to new outfits entirely. Reasons range from "personal preference" to "shocker! this east asian gatcha game has an orientalism problem!" aka "being from a mena/swana background and educated on orientalism and being a fan of things will have you have your head in your hands a lot". So I just made this blog to go over a few of the sprite edits. We'll go from most to least altered. There are some Cookies with redesigns not discussed here (specifically Yogurt Cream Cookie (might revisit that one), his brother (not much to say), and that one Teenieping (ditto).
Choco Drizzle Cookie first. Nothing really wrong with her design, just some Cookies in Kingdom have a "low saturation" problem so I just saturated her colors a bit. Nothing actually wrong this is purely visual preference.
Creme Brulee Cookie. Also pretty much just an issue of saturation and gave him proper shoes rather than the weird gradient thing he has on his feet typically. I remember when this guy came out, people were in HYSTERICS his design was so poorly recieved. People even started ragging on Linzer Cookie, which I personally found bullshit. Linzer Cookie has a good palette, design, and reflection of her flavor in both appearence and occupation (linzers are jam filled cookies, strawberry jam is cookie blood, so this strawberry jam based cookie is a crime-fiction and thriller mystery writer) I genuinely don't understand why people were trying to lump her into the poor design club with the sickest looking twink I've seen recently.
Sugar Coat Cookie. This guy is just an NPC, but his original dough tone was so desaturated it bothered me, especially when the rest of the town square Cookies have brighter brown dough tones.
Do Cookie Run fans even talk about regular Milk Cookie anymore? People prefer the blue thing nowadays. But anyway, I haven't heard anyone talk about Milk Cookie in ages, but I remember back in the early 2020s there were discussions on the use of the cross symbols on Milk Cookie's design, which, in compination with him being a paladin/cleric, being a very white "divine light" religious type of Cookie, and his interactions with black/black coded Cookies (Purple Yam Cookie, Dark Choco Cookie, Ananas Dragon Cookie), drew comparions to crusaders. So for his sprite I just made them into little hearts. Which honestly I think works better with this design, a heart and a droplet/tear are very similar shapes!
How many of you have even seen this Cookie? Date/Date Palm Cookie is a Cookie who I could only find one blurry image of and is from one of the Korean-exclusive books that explain the lore? for the Braverse card game. So who's stopping me from just saying this is the original design. Anyway I just thought this Cookie looked very cute with the big ol' glasses and what I chose to interpret as a date-shaped hijab and took some liberties with the clothing when drawing over them for a proper 2d sprite.
With Peppercorn Cookie, in-universe she originates from a different region entirely (the main problem with her is mostly just that she's a character who primarly uses(used?) bombs who was part of a "shady clan of bandits" in a mena/swana inspired region, as well as the whole thing with her bear jelly set depicting a bomb vest and the release timing of the update) and I don't see much discussion of potential problems with her wardobe specifically in that context (as much as the other mentioned Cookies here at least?). So with her specifically, I didn't change much overall, but I added some elements to her outfit inspired by elements from West African fashion and patterns resembling a peppercorn plant. I think it's a shame they used her character design the way they did because having peppercorns as textured hair is a really cute design element!
Lilac Cookie has a case of "ruh-roh! ""bellydancer"" outfit" and no, it being on a man doesn't make it much better. Anyway for him, I changed his outfit to something reminencent of a Persian classical dancer, with the dress and the jacket, alongside the back headpiece and a few extra lilacs in his hair.
If she weren't trapped in Orientalism City storyline, Scorpion Cookie would be like a top 10 Cookie I think. You know how I love my poison girlies. And at the end of the day I still think I do enjoy her, or at least the idea of her, enough to take my time and multiple attempts at giving her a more well thought-out outfit. For this go at a wardrobe change (and for a few of the wardrobe changes), I based it on elements of Turkish folk dress, having the pants be more like şalvar with the long garment on top, and also keeping the baggy sleeves, as well as swapping the head ornament for earrings and a headband. Also gave her little Chelicerae/teeths because I like it when my specifically arachnid and arthopod flavored Cookies have cool arthropod and arachnid design elements... speaking of which.
This Cookie's reveal was half "i warned you! i don't want yogurca again!" and half "not enough centipede elements! mama wants more centipede elements!". So I may have went a bit overboard redesigning Centipede Cookie, cuz this is just an OC a this point with how much I changed. So basically: shorter hair, mandibles/teeths, change in eye color, long sleeved abaya, an extra set of arms, and a fully centipede lower half.
So: even with some of these Cookies's stories still existing as is, at least I had a little bit of fun with character design and looking up fashion for a niche tier list maker. Though I always fear it's gonna break containment and someone's gonna be like "ERRRRRM WHY IS LILAC COOKIE SO DIFFERENT ON THIS TIERLIST" though the only time someone commented on that aspect was actually to praise the redesigns I made for this list, which was sweet. where ever you are moonrabbitgaming thank you and i hope you're able to find the reupload of the tiermaker and continue using it.
